Youtoo Social TV

A simple cube gives us a very strong, clean place to start the identity of Youtoo Social TV, but how to make it fun? Teach it how to salsa! The ever changing faces of the rolling, dancing cube introduce us to the viewers who become the creators as they upload their Fame Spots to this new player in the social realm. Thank You fashioned a lively, upbeat visual style for this social pioneer who is bringing their brand of democracy to American cable television.

UTV Stars

UTV Stars

When UTV approached THANK YOU to create an identity for their new TV channel, one word naturally emerged: opulence. When introducing this new fashion and pop culture TV channel by the East Indian TV giant, glitz and glamour are in order. As the first official Bollywood channel simultaneously launched in Mumbai and the United Arab Emirates, UTV Stars called for high production value, and a smooth, rich and saturated universe.

[extra]
THANK YOU jumped at the opportunity, embracing UTV’s unique cultural milieus to craft a perfect blend of dazzling glitter and eye-popping design that carried into all facets of the experience. Everything from logo design, to templates for billboards, catalogs, and vehicle wraps; TV studio set design, and the station’s identity, exuded the unmistakable feel of luxury. THANK YOU created the well-tailored packaging for a TV channel highlighting fame and fortune: one that delivered a healthy dose of lust and craving to the consumer.[/]

Sundance Channel

Synonymous with unique programming, and intrinsically associated with one of the world’s most renowned film festivals, the Sundance Channel network both inspires and entertains. Contacted and asked to refresh the brand of the entire network, THANK YOU jumped at the opportunity.

[extra]To best highlight the impressive variety of Sundance programming, and the viewer’s ability to happily pick-and-choose from it, THANK YOU employed the concept of visual sliders in the campaign. Using animated transitions and graphic branding elements, show names, days of the week, and characters’ names, shuffled through on screen, emphasized Sundance Channel’s offering of notable content for every taste and sensibility.

By referencing a universally familiar concept, and combining it with eye-catching visuals, THANK YOU created a distinctive campaign that could easily translate to various media. From animated promos, to outdoor advertisements, and much in between, the re-branding of the Sundance Channel had life imitating art: the campaign being easily appreciated as a whole or sum of its parts.[/]

Swatch “New Gent”

Swatch “New Gent” II

Working closely with Swatch, THANK YOU introduced New Gent II, the bigger, bolder, more provocative alter-ego to classic Swatch Gent. Using punchy colours, stark contrast and strong lines, the campaign definitely makes a statement: Swatch is a one-of-a-kind company. THANK YOU emphasized this fact with a striking, lasting, ad campaign.

Swatch “New Gent” I

How to best showcase a classic? Create a sense of connection and longing for what it inspires and provides. Seeking evocative lifestyle shots, THANK YOU partnered once again with celebrated photographer Rankin. Graphical lines around the wearer’s head were chosen as the key visual: referencing both the distinctive feature of the New Gent (its large graphical clock face) and identifying that wearer as an enlightened style icon.
[extra]
In this role, the wearer is always in control — when still, the wearer’s calm and wise attitude is reflected in the lines’ subtle movement; when driven to action the lines break apart or come together at the wearer’s dynamic will. Adding to this in the TV commercial, the balance of stillness and vibrant action further highlights a sense of time, movement and travel that audiences can relate to.

Learning from the DNA campaign, the grid and the overall approach put in place for the Colour Codes campaign were further refined, which contributed to time saving, flexibility and scalability of the assignment. In addition to the new TV commercials, templates for magazine ads, booklets, billboards, in-store branding and vehicle wraps were also created.[/]

Swatch has a history of forming brilliant collaborations, and they asked THANK YOU to help them communicate their latest exciting project: Kidrobot.
Swatch&Art

Swatch asked THANK YOU to develop an iPad app that would emphasise the art and artistry of nearly 30 years of Swatch designs. The process of artistic creation became the inspiration for an interface both simple and elegant—each movement transformed into a flowing brushstroke as the user peruses the virtual gallery. Art presents art in a union of subject and medium.

Rankin for Swatch

Famed English fashion photographer Rankin has been commissioned many times by Swatch as a photographer, but this project was different. This time he would be the designer. Pulling from his experience to create a watch unique to his vision, he settled upon the centrepiece of his craft, the human eye. Extreme close-up photography showcases the abstract beauty of the iris. In this collaboration THANK YOU had the privilege of creating in-store motion graphics to highlight the artistry of one of Britain’s leading image makers.

Swatch “Bijoux”

The Bijoux collection from Swatch was the subject of a catalog they asked THANK YOU to design. Striking images from the final product look like stars hanging in the sky — a fitting allusion for glittering jewels. Some of the wild jumbles of necklaces seem to leap from the page, others look as if they might swim away, and yet next to the chaos, there is a cleanliness to the design, a simplicity that lets the jewelery itself take centre stage.

Swatch MTV Playground

For the 2011 MTV Playground campaign, Swatch and MTV joined forces again to hold a design competition for the masses, and THANK YOU was there with a simple question: "Why should a logo be static when its primary distribution channels are TV and the web?" The new logo is an inspired collision of turntable and watch — a design that could only work when you think outside of the paper box — movement is as much a part of it as colour, shape or font. A logo that moves with time — what could be more Swatch?

Swatch “Colour Codes”

Swatch “Colour Codes”

The Colour Codes campaign marked a turning point for Swatch and a pivotal point for THANK YOU. Swatch approached THANK YOU for the launch of their new collection, a reinterpretation of their original watch from the 80’s. Faced with the impressive task of building an entire international campaign, spanning all platforms, THANK YOU focused on versatility and scalability.

[extra]
The process began with THANK YOU collaborating with renowned British photographer, Rankin, to seize captivating lifestyle photos befitting the Swatch brand. 3D assets of the watches were then created; enabling the watch to be shown from any angle, and easily customized. To best showcase the product and its ties to both the brand’s origins and evolution, a DNA strand was selected as the key visual element for the campaign. After determining the ideal means of executing the idea in 3D, the key visual afforded great variety and reuse potential. Simply changing the colour combination of the watches being used in the DNA strand, or showing the strand from different angles, kept the concept fresh.

As for customization for target markets, this was easily achieved thanks to the creation of distinct design elements that could stand on their own: the key visual, product shots, and lifestyle photos. This allowed THANK YOU to effectively create templates for a variety of scenarios including designs for brochures, catalogs, merchandise, and urban display. In addition, the branding solution that Swatch implemented in their stores enabled THANK YOU’s concept to become a quick, dynamic, customizable reality.
The success of the Colour Codes campaign paved the road for further exciting projects with Swatch. THANK YOU had become a friend of the brand and looked forward to building on the strong and healthy relationship.[/]

Swatch “Creart”

For the Creart campaign, THANK YOU was called in to tie together the many threads of this multi-artist project by creating a unifying theme… and the Art Machine was born. Mixing Rube Goldberg-like watch movements with lusciously thick and richly coloured volumes of paint. The ad seems to say that these watches are as fun on the inside as they are on the outside, and they are really fun on the outside. The playful tone of the films matched perfectly with the character of each design, and acted to tie them all together into a single package.

The challenge was to introduce DR’s relaunch of ’70s children’s shows in a program called “Telly from when Dad was boy". The program was scheduled for a secondary channel when a Disney show was running on the primary channel, so competition for viewers was stiff.

[extra]
We took a playful approach, poking a little fun at dated technology. A man (face unseen) is shown adjusting the “rabbit ear” antennas on an old black & white TV, gaining a distorted picture and buzzing sounds. He finally gets it tuned into the title graphics of DR’s new children’s broadcast.[/]

Adobe Max

Adobe asked us to do the opening welcome teaser for the Flash event MAX in Los Angeles, CA. Our challenge was to combine three different elements at the event: typography, photography and illustration. We had to include footage from earlier events and inject the event with the feeling of living in L.A. Our concept of "transporting" played around with the system of super highways connecting the city.

DR “Boogie”

Denmark's national broadcaster DR (Denmark's Radio) came to us with a clear objective for its annual music award show "BOOGIE PRISEN": create something fun that would inspire kids to be creative. The concept moved away from flashy, high gloss graphics to a hand-made stop motion aesthetic.

[extra]
The idea was that it's fun to color outside the lines. Ink art doodles became full-color illustrations spreading over floors and walls. Paper cut-outs clicked into interlocking steel shapes spelling out the Boogie name. For this energetic, fast-paced piece, we re-discovered what it means to be a kid, to imagine and create with enjoyment being the only goal.[/]

MTV “Transistor”

For MTV Denmark's new block of programming for kids, we used iron-on beads to bring back an after school atmosphere and the playfulness of youth. But what happens when grown men play with beads? Soon a group of us was hunched over a light table humming, fleshing out what would later become a soundtrack. The beads took on a life of their own as they smashed into colors and shapes within the confines of a pegged grid.
[extra]
The piece originally called for CG elements, but with the energy that flowed from almost 10,000 beads moving by hand, the magic of stop-motion proved to be enough to create a nostalgic sense of childhood joy.[/]

Egils christmas

THANK YOU directed, designed and produced this Christmas Classic "Love at first sight" commercial. This fun, playfully romantic approach applies the notion of an Icelandic love story to inanimate beverages, Appelsin and Maltextrakt. Through the magic of stop motion, we created a world of make-believe with subtle camera tricks and smart animation. While the bottles "fall in love" candles grow, dishes spin and jump, and a cozy Christmas scene bursts into life.

Icelandair and Agency Íslenska came to us with a challenge to create an inflight video that would rethink the way the airline communicated with its passengers. The video had to be informative and technically accurate, but also attractive, entertaining, and out of the ordinary.

Our objective was to express in just a few minutes the trademarks of Icelandic nature: light and purity. Not everything done at THANK YOU is done on computers. Sometimes, it’s just way more fun to do it for real in front of the camera. Take this Carpark North video for example. Although the club is now closed, it reopened to welcome home the stars and to celebrate a special era in Danish jazz history. Collaborating with Zentrop and Per Fly, we used star cameos, audience flashes and tight graphic elements to create a feel for this popular TV series.
Skjárinn

We directed, designed and produced the re-brand of Iceland's most popular TV Channel. Building on the ideal that Scandinavians are playful, intelligent, and positive, the commercial flowed into simple design elements of dots, strokes, hearts, stars and flowers. The palette was inspired by the crisp, clean colors of Iceland. The SkjárEinn logo became the central axis for channel branding, revolving around the centre of the screen and dominating the surrounding space. Design choices fit the softer feminine appeal that SkjárEinn craved.

When we were commissioned for this project, Danish National Broadcasting Corporation (DR) wanted a rough, but humorous commercial that put teenage viewers in charge. We broke up the concept into its elements and found inspiration in the show's name "GreatDane." Canine quirkiness and curiosity, combined with rough graffiti-like elements and bold typography, became the base of the commercial's youthful spirit, effectively connecting with the target teen audience. The actor wasn’t fully housetrained, but was fun to work with nevertheless.

Outlandish “Look Into My Eyes”

Outlandish “Look Into My Eyes”

Working with the band Outlandish, we created a music video filled with sets of text and graphic elements that not only interact, but react to the song’s lyrics. The video flows between black and white and colour with unifying graphics that use symbolic word choices. The result is a lively and energetic music video, brimming with gritty raw energy just like the song itself.
Project: Music video
Band: Outlandish
Song: Look Into My Eyes
