Showreel 09
  • Music: Yann Coppier

A compilation of work produced in two thousand and eight.

Swatch
  • Project: Swatch commercials
  • Sound: Yann Coppier

For a high profile launch in Venice of the new Swatch Art Collection, a series of watches decorated by international artists. We were commissioned by Swatch to tie together the entire campaign by unifying the different watches into one over-arching idea. Our brainchild was the Art Machine, a crazy, fast moving mechanical-looking device that creates art and spits out watches, while working to a time-related beat. A colorful mixture of materials and techniques achieved the right attitude for the films with the campaign successfully launched on all media fronts in Europe.

Behind the scenes
Adobe
  • Project: Adobe Max
  • Music: Yann Coppier

Adobe asked us to do the opening welcome teaser for the Flash event MAX in Los Angeles, CA. Our challenge was to combine three different elements at the event: typography, photography and illustration. We had to include footage from earlier events and inject the event with the feeling of living in L.A. Our concept of "transporting" played around with the system of super highways connecting the city. We used long travel shots of the roads while watching L.A. come to life using iconic pop-up images along the way.

IO Interactive
  • Project: Mini Ninja
  • Music: IO Interactive

The game company, IO Interactive, recently developed Mini Ninja, its newest kids' game. Our assignment was to create a three-minute introduction to the game. From simplicity came inspiration. We let the clean, minimalist drawings on a papyrus roll illustrate the game, while the Ninja master himself tells the story behind it. Basic animations and effortless transitions injected magic to the story's flow.

TDC
  • Project: TDC TV commercial

We worked with Scandinavian telecommunications giant TDC on creating this fast action, transformer-like commercial to promote TDC's new campaign for in-store mobile phones. To the tune of the Jackson 5's singalong lyrics, "ABC, one, two, three, baby, you and me..." the mobile phone transforms into a camera, internet kiosk and deluxe music system. TDC's recognizable brand transforms as well into a background of brilliant orange colour splashes.

Arla
  • Project: Arla TV commercial
  • Agency: Advance

Working with agency Advance, we created this heartwarming commercial with ultra-feminine appeal for European dairy conglomerate Arla's organic yogurt "ProBio." Designed and produced by THANK YOU, the commercial integrates animated graphics with live-action to promote ProBio's healthy features, focused on the benefits it brings to a woman throughout her day from home and work to love and play.

Moderna
  • Project: Entertainment branding
  • Agency: Gott Fólk
  • Music: David Sebastian Buus

We worked with agency Gott Fólk on creating this purely typographic commercial for Swedish financial conglomerate Moderna. Directed, designed and produced by THANK YOU, the commercial draws inspiration from the famous board game Scrabble, building words in graphic tiles that move through Moderna’s mottos and philosophy.

Sjóva
  • Project: TV commercials
  • Agency: Gott Fólk
  • Music: Yann Coppier

We were commissioned by Agency Gott Fólk to create a simple, yet effective commercial to promote Iceland's leading insurance company Sjóva. Directing, designing and producing the commercial, we take simplicity to the next level, leaving the audience mesmerized and in no doubt about the product on show.

MBL
  • Project: TV commercial
  • Agency: Ennemm
  • Music: Yann Coppier

Working with agency Ennemm, we created this type-centric commercial for Iceland’s biggest newspaper. With our trademark simplicity, we used a black & white palette, minimalist design and a grid-system to convey the newspaper’s no-nonsense identity. Animated changing templates for the paper’s sections brought a sense of relevant immediacy to the message, backed with a soundtrack by i-snor of urban music, punctuated by keyboard sounds and audience cheers.

TDC
  • Project: Rebranding
  • Agency: &co.
  • Music: Yann Coppier

We redesigned and directed a major re-branding of the biggest telephone company in Denmark, TDC. Building on the idea that TDC's identity is in a constant motion, we took ownership of the basic form of a simple dot. From there the dot transformed, divided and reproduced into vibrant splashes of paint and flashing images. The soundtrack nearly races – at screaming speed – through a montage of products, users and innovation. The basic dot form in the new visual identity for TDC works its magic in print and static media as well as it does in fast motion.

Behind the scenes
Icelandair
  • Project: Inflight video
  • Agency: Íslenska
  • Music: Einar Örn / Finnbogi

Icelandair and Agency Íslenska came to us with a challenge to create an inflight video that would rethink the way the airline communicated with its passengers. The video had to be informative and technically accurate, but also attractive, entertaining, and out of the ordinary. Our objective was to express in just a few minutes the trademarks of Icelandic nature: light and purity. From the opening twitter of birds to the soft voice-over to the airy illustrations animated into a 3-D pop-up style, the result is an inflight video that is distinctive, beautiful, informative and reassuring.

Behind the scenes
MTV
  • Project: Station Identity
  • Music: Yann Coppier
  • Awards: PromaxBDA 08 Best On Air Branding

THANK YOU was fortunate to have the chance to work with creative dream client MTV Scandinavia for its station identity re-brand. The chosen approach was simple; the goal was to inspire rather than impress. We took the MTV logo full-screen and used simple shapes to mark it up in time to a quirky synthesized track by i-snor. With a nod to the DADA anti-establishment design movement, Johannes Itten and geometric shapes, we went back to the basics, creating fun, fast and occasionally weird audio-controlled animations, show clips and revamped station IDs.

Danish Broadcasting Corp.
  • Project: Boogie / Program Package
  • Music: Dj Budha
  • Featured: onedotzero 08

Denmark's national broadcaster DR (Denmark's Radio) came to us with a clear objective for its annual music award show "BOOGIE PRISEN": create something fun that would inspire kids to be creative. The concept moved away from flashy, high gloss graphics to a hand-made stop motion aesthetic. The idea was that it's fun to color outside the lines. Ink art doodles became full-color illustrations spreading over floors and walls. Paper cut-outs clicked into interlocking steel shapes spelling out the Boogie name. For this energetic, fast-paced piece, we re-discovered what it means to be a kid, to imagine and create with enjoyment being the only goal.

Behind the scenes
MTV
  • Project: Transistor / Program Package
  • Sound: Kungen and Hertigen

For MTV Denmark's new block of programming for kids, we used iron-on beads to bring back an after school atmosphere and the playfulness of youth. But what happens when grown men play with beads? Soon a group of us was hunched over a light table humming, fleshing out what would later become a soundtrack. The beads took on a life of their own as they smashed into colors and shapes within the confines of a pegged grid. The piece originally called for CG elements, but with the energy that flowed from almost 10,000 beads moving by hand, the magic of stop-motion proved to be enough to create a nostalgic sense of childhood joy.

Behind the scenes
Síminn
  • Project: Síminn VOD / TV commercials
  • Agency: Ennemm
  • Sound: Simon Damborg

When Iceland's largest telephone company introduced video on demand (VOD) as part of its TV package, we were commissioned by agency Ennemm to make a memorable impact in the marketplace announcing its anticipated arrival. The approach: giant movie reels unwind in space while fast-edit cuts of exploding glass, spectacular car crashes and flashing light sabres show how the world of blockbuster entertainment is all just one click away with the new Simin's VOD.

Ölgerðin
  • Project: Egils Xmas / TV commercial
  • Agency: Gott Fólk

THANK YOU directed, designed and produced this Christmas Classic "Love at first sight" commercial. This fun, playfully romantic approach applies the notion of an Icelandic love story to inanimate beverages, Appelsin and Maltextrakt. Through the magic of stop motion, we created a world of make-believe with subtle camera tricks and smart animation. While the bottles "fall in love" candles grow, dishes spin and jump, and a cozy Christmas scene bursts into life.

Behind the scenes
Montmartre
  • Project: Title sequence
  • Production: Storm

We directed this intro sequence for Copenhagen’s most celebrated jazz venue. American jazz icons met with three young Scandinavian jazz musicians at the legendary club where they had played in the 60s and 70s – the Montmartre club in Copenhagen. Althought the club is now closed, it reopened to welcome home the stars and to celebrate a special era in Danish jazz history. While designing and directing this intro, we pulled cues from the soulful sounds of this nostalgic single night opening. An intense and touching film sequence results, leaving the viewer between a smile and a tear.

Läkerol
  • Project: Läkerol TV commercials
  • Agency: Publicis

For the introduction of the new Swedish “Dark” flavored Läkerol pastille in Scandinavia, we captured the pure essence of the pastille by moving black silhouettes across a golden sky through a mysterious landscape that is rich, dark and textured.  Inspired by Corto Maltese classic comics and mixing analog and CG, we treat the viewer to a tasty feast for the eyes and a walk through Läkerol Dark’s original flavor origins.

Behind the scenes
Läkerol
  • Project: Läkerol TV commercials
  • Agency: Publicis

For the relaunch of a well-known brand Bentasil, re-branded as the new Swedish “Care” Läkerol pastille in Scandinavia, we created delicate animated scenes of Scandinavia’s changing weather. With the idea that drastic weather changes from sunny warmth to frigid cold can bring illness, the commercial reveals soothing Care pastilles as the welcome solution on the way back to good health.

Behind the scenes
Skjárinn
  • Project: Station Identity
  • Agency: Ennemm
  • Music: Yann Coppier

We directed, designed and produced the re-brand of Iceland's most popular TV Channel. Building on the ideal that Scandinavians are playful, intelligent, and positive, the commercial flowed into simple design elements of dots, strokes, hearts, stars and flowers. The palette was inspired by the crisp, clean colors of Iceland. The SkjárEinn logo became the central axis for channel branding, revolving around the centre of the screen and dominating the surrounding space. Design choices fit the softer feminine appeal that SkjárEinn craved.

Performances
  • Project: Title sequence
  • Production: Zentropa
  • Director: Per Fly

Collaborating with Zentrop and Per Fly, we used star cameos, audience flashes and tight graphic elements to create a feel for this popular TV series. While directing and designing the title sequence, a sense of the show’s edginess began to emerge through rough type, graphics and editing. The graphics set a pace that fused flawlessly with the intensity of this excellent series.

Danish Broadcasting Corp.
  • Project: Grand Danois / Program Package
  • Sound: Stjernholm

When we were commissioned for this project, Danish National Broadcasting Corporation (DR) wanted a rough, but humorous commercial that put teenage viewers in charge. We broke up the concept into its elements and found inspiration in the show's name "GreatDane." Canine quirkiness and curiosity, combined with rough graffiti-like elements and bold typography, became the base of the commercial's youthful spirit, effectively connecting with the target teen audience. The actor wasn’t fully housetrained, but was fun to work with nevertheless.

MTV Idents
  • Music: Peter Peter

When creating this set of stop-motion breakers for MTV Scandinavia, we used a simple idea and advanced techniques to create energetic youthful appeal for a variety of niche programming. Starting with a simple animated cuckoo clock, we let magic out of the box every time the clock struck the hour and out popped unexpected items, maybe long lost and rediscovered in boxes packed long ago. We blended these ornate and odd items into spirited animations with a variety of changing themes.

PFA
  • Project: PFA TV commercials
  • Agency: Kunde & Co.
  • Sound: Supersonic

Commissioned by agency Kunde & Co, we designed and directed a set of four commercials for Denmark’s biggest pension firm, PFA. Illustrating the defining moments in life through soft abstract visuals, we used clean flowing design, a reduced color palette, live action and CG elements to convey the various emotions one goes through in a lifetime. The calming visuals and voiceover worked together to bring PFA into each of life’s scenarios.

Behind the scenes
Ölgerðin
  • Project: Kristall TV commercial
  • Agency: Gott Folk
  • Sound: Mikkel Metal

Icelanders know best when it comes to the purity and clarity of the water they drink. We took on this project with that appeal in mind, and created refreshing imagery with a lush music track that embraces splashing, rushing, dripping sounds of water. A colourful shower of fruit showcases the beauty of clean, clear water with refreshing twists of citrus flavor.

Behind the scenes
Outlandish
  • Project: Look into my eyes / Music video
  • Lable: SonyMusic

Working with the band Outlandish, we created a music video filled with sets of text and graphic elements that not only interact, but react to the song’s lyrics. The video flows between black and white and colour with unifying graphics that use symbolic word choices. The result is a lively and energetic music video, brimming with gritty raw energy just like the song itself.
